What should I say when someone wishes me "Merry Christmas"?
Answer # 50
It is often sufficient to respond with a question such as "Where has this last year gone?" or "It's-that time of year again, isn't it?" or "Do you think it is going to snow?" or even a parting statement on an entirely unrelated subject such as "Good-bye now" or "Have a good day!"
The surprising fact is that few individuals will even notice that you haven't wished "Merry Christmas" in return, so meaningless is the expression.
At other times, a smile and a "Thank you" (meaning you are grateful for their concern) may be more appropriate.
